Statuesque siren Rihanna was a stunner at the MTV Video Music Awards on Thursday night with a shocking pixie do' she highlighted on the red moments before kicking off the show.
But the 24-year-old Barbados beauty decided to obscure her short coif with a red headband during her high-octane performance of "Cockiness (Love It)" and "We Found Love" at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Despite pumping up the crowd, the R&B songstress lost out in the first award of the night for Best Pop Video. Her pop star, Katy Perry, presented the award to British-Irish boy band One Direction, who took home a Moonman trophy for "What Makes You Beautiful."
Just to make the raucous occasion awkward, a blond-haired Chris Brown, 23, showed up to collect a trophy for Best Male Video for the song, "Turn Up the Music" — beating out real-life rival Drake.
Brown and Drake were allegedly involved in a bottle-throwing brawl over Rihanna at a SoHo nightclub on June 14. The drama, however, didn't spill over to the VMAs — at least not early on in the show.
Host Kevin Hart joked that the pair’s beef was over a "mistake," and that Drake simply threw a bottle because he was aiming for a recycling bin.
"Drake loves to recycle!" Hart quipped, adding, "It was over a mistake — nip it in the bud."
To that, the camers panned to Drake lightly clapping.
