Dear Pastor,
I enjoy reading your column and I thank God for the good advice that you give. My problem is with my brother-in-law. He is married and he has a son, but all of a sudden he left his son's house and came back to live with his mother. Unfortunately, his father died leaving a will. In the will, it is stated that his wife has a life hold to his property, but she has to stay unmarried, which she has. My common-law husband along with his smaller brother (who is retarded) is also life hold. The other children's names were mentioned, but they are not life holds.
The problem is, my common-law husband left me at this house that his father also willed to him. His mother, the retarded brother and another younger brother and I live there. My brother-in-law who is married is now living in the same house with his problems and stress. When he just came here and told us his part of his marriage story, I felt sorry for him. I tried to make him feel at home in the best way that I could. I even slept with his mother so that he could have his own bed for comfort. Many nights when I had to go to work, I would leave him my room key so that he could feel at home.
estate and affairs
Since late January, my brother-in-law has changed so much. He said he would send me packing from his house and if I don't leave, he will throw my things out on the street. I told my husband and he said he could never put me out because he is not the life holder.
Pastor, I am worried because my husband is not here to make this go away. He is in prison. Although my husband is in prison, I must say he tries in every way to make me happy and comfortable. He even went as far as giving me a power of attorney to live and do business for him in the interest of his estate and affairs. I love my husband so much, but the way his brother acts makes me have second thoughts about the family.
On February 2, he boxed me and pushed me because I was getting his retarded brother ready for his shower, which I do most times. My mother-in-law also says I should not go anywhere. Sometimes I wonder if it is the room that he wants because I fixed it really well.
Pastor, I need your advice real quickly as the matter is getting out of hand. Whenever he sees me he hisses his teeth and starts to curse, which I ignore. Why the sudden change?

Dear T. C.,
This is a legal matter. Therefore, I suggest that you go and see a lawyer and take a copy of the will and he/she will advise you.
